Muffler Man

Muffler+Man

09/26/1999 - Sherman Way near Sepulveda Blvd, Van Nuys, California.

Much has been written about Muffler Men, but I've only seen three in the wild. You may have noticed the Muffler Man who shows up briefly in the opening credits of The Sopranos.

This one lives outside an oil change & lube shop... his muffler is long gone, and for some reason his kerchief has been painted black in the two years since this photo was taken.

Mission Hills Bowl (I)

Mission+Hills+Bowl

09/26/1999 - 10430 Sepulveda Boulevard, Mission Hills. Martin Stern, Jr., Architect.

A perfect example of how haphazard remodeling dilutes great googie buildings, often to the point where they attain 'eyesore' status and get torn down. I don't know what color the building and perforated girders were originally, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't STARK WHITE. And it's also probably safe to assume the original Mission Hills Bowl sign looked more like this.

  • @mikesusz Yeah, that's new. Have to see if it's any better in Rindge; historically I'm lucky to get 1 ATT bar there. 5 years 19 weeks ago
  • Holy crap dude! Getting 4 bars of reception from AT&T at the house. It's not 3G, but it's a big improvement. #fb 5 years 19 weeks ago

  • @prouty Hmm, I think you'd have to set up some kind of list with specific rules like that - but I like the idea. 5 years 19 weeks ago
